30 July 2020

It certainly has been a long and frustrating lockdown… With many things remaining legally prohibited, regulated and limited, nobody has been more severely impacted than social groupings such as ourselves.  But we are used to travelling hundreds of kilometres in the elements and roughing it off the beaten track, so we can certainly weather these challenges too!

As the Club Committee, we wish to thank you for your understanding and support during this time when we are not able to offer the full club experience.  Rest assured that we are closely monitoring any developments that would allow us to safely and responsibly restart all the great stuff that make us the BMW Motorcycle Club family.

Thank you!!!

One of the Club’s initiatives that was not hampered by the lockdown was our recent Wellness drive.  We asked for your contributions to ease the burden on the Elandspoort community during this difficult and challenging time and we were bowled over by your generosity. With your help we raised R20,000 for a desperate community and this went immediately into the most basic of foodstuffs.  Thank you for opening up your hearts and wallets and making a massive difference where it is needed most.

25 Year Anniversary!

Yes, July marks the BMW Motorcycle Club’s silver jubilee.  The committee started planning a gala function to celebrate this remarkable milestone, but unfortunately we had to put this on hold due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown.  We fully intend to dust off our plans and celebrate the Club’s birthday in spectacular fashion as soon as we are allowed to.

Virtual Club Night Social – Thursday 6 August 2020 @ 18h00 on Zoom!

Many of us have been using Teams or Zoom to have online meetings while working from home, so why not have a good old social online?! You are cordially invited to join us next Friday evening for an online social.  Put on a silly hat and fill your glass with your favourite beverage (if you still have stock left) and let’s have some fun.  I have no idea how many people Zoom can accommodate, but let’s see if we can reach that limit – so use your laptop or your mobile phone to raise a glass or two!  We may even have a lucky draw competition…  The invite link to the online session will follow in a separate e-mail.

First Aid Level 2 training – Saturday 31 October 2020

This is an urgent call for everyone with a valid Level 1 or expiring Level 2 first aid certification to attend this training session specifically organised for you.  As the Club subsidises a big part of this, it will only cost you R450 and have the skills to save a life.  If you are interested, please send an email to tom@bmwclubs.co.za to reserve your spot.  More details will follow with the arrangements.

With the lockdown restrictions being lifted for leisure travel within our province, I’ve learned that there is an initiative where you can recharge your flat motorcycle battery this coming Sunday, 2 August 2020.  If you need assistance with this in a safe and responsible manner, please send a WhatsApp message to 0836250511 no later than Saturday morning.  This is obviously not an official Club initiative, but I thought to share as we hold the mechanical state and wellbeing of your motorcycle in high regard.  Strict screening and safety protocols will apply for the duration of this battery maintenance operation…

In closing, we hope to see you at our Virtual Club meeting next Thursday evening.  Until then, keep the rubber side down and play it safe!
