I am going to do the Recce ride for the September GS Ride, tomorrow Sunday 22 August.

If anyone wants to join me you are more than welcome. I have no idea of how long it will take or what the road conditions will be like. Because it will be a recce ride, there may be some stopping, turning around at dead ends, backtracking etc. This makes it lots of fun, but sometimes a bit frustrating. All this so we don't have to deal with it on the Club Ride, imagine if Drix did not do a recce for last month's trip, we would still be riding today!!!!

Right, recce is done, and the route is perfect, maybe a tad on the long side, but there is some tar stretches, so we will make up nice time.

There is a very very nice water crossing

and some awesome 2-spoor. The rest is all level 1 / 2 dirt highways, perfect for some low flying. The only technical bit is the water crossing, but one of the riders on the recce was on his first ever dirt ride and he was on a 1200GS, he went through the water crossing just fine, no problems at all. Mario can testify to this

We will have lunch at the Dros in Bela Bela, I even recce'd the Cheese Burger and Chips with a Captain Morgan and Coke - no problems there, they were just fine Don't try the Cuppachino's - ask Mario

Start time will be 07:00 for 07:30, I hope to be in Bela Bela at about 12:00.

Thanks Etienne for a great ride! You really talked that guy through the water - well done! And gee I would have loved to see more of Blaze's riding but we were a bit too far back! And I did get back in time to fix the pelmet. And yes, the coke zero was better than the cappucino, but the burger was fine!

Such a pity we are going to miss it - sounds like a great route!
But we will be thinking of you guys when we are cruising the West Coast dirt roads.

Some info on the ride for the folks that won't be able to attend the Friday Night Club Night:

We will meet at BP Centurion, close to the John Vorster off-ramp towards Makro, 07:00 for 07:30.

We will be heading north on the N1 and then east on the N4, then a stint through Mamelodi, then onto some dirt.

The ride to Bela Bela is 203km, but includes quite a bit of tar and some very good dirt highways, we will make good time.
