BMW's Dick and Delport 4th and 11th in Brits off road race

Gray Dick (Bavarian Motorcycles BMW G450X) finished a hard-earned fourth overall while team-mate Wynand Delport made up 15 places to place 11th in the inaugural Grass Factory & Eco Organics 400, fifth round of the national motorcycle and quad off road championships in the Brits area of North West Province last weekend.

The 400-km event took its toll on the 360 bike and quad riders entered in the 21 motorcycle and 17 quad classes and the two BMW riders did well to complete the gruelling course without major mishap after more than seven and a half hours in the saddle.

Dick got his weekend off to a good start with fourth overall in Friday's 42-km time trial that determined the start positions for Saturday's 354-km race. He was enjoying a clean run and lying third behind Riaan van Niekerk (KTM) after overtaking Lourens Mahoney (Yamaha), who had crashed into a fence while leading, when his brakes worked loose. He stopped to make repairs and was overtaken by Bollie van Rooyen (Kawasaki) and Wade Blaauw (Yamaha). He managed to haul in Blaauw before the finish in Brits to finish fourth behind time-trial winner Jade Gutzeit (Yamaha), Van Rooyen and Van Niekerk.

Gildenhuys and BMW win Superbike SuperPole at Phakisa

Greg Gildenhuys (Autohaus Towing BMW S1000RR) set the Phakisa Freeway tarmac alight in the fifth round of the Interfile Superbike Championship at Phakisa Freeway in the Free State on Saturday when he blitzed the consolation SuperPole event after the cancellation of the two bike races.

Following Friday's free practice sessions at the Odendaalsrus circuit, which was also attended by the car championships that, together with Supersport and Superbikes, make up the WesBank Super Series, a circuit inspection on Saturday morning found that there were dangerous drop-offs between the tar and the dirt edges of the circuit.

The SuperPole qualifying format consists of a single sighting lap followed by a timed flying lap with riders going out one at a time. Excitement mounted as the riders were timed in reverse order of the current championship standings, with Gildenhuys second last before current championship leader Lance Isaacs.

The 21-year-old former national Supersport champion was in irresistible form and rode a scintillating lap of 1 min 35,99 sec, more than six tenths of a second faster than Isaacs' on his Honda and well inside the official Phakisa lap record.

After assessing the venue, its facilities and in an attempt to accommodate all the club members, we can confirm the following:
*Venue Overview:-* Situated in the beautiful Magaliesburg mountains, overlooking the scenic Buffelspoort dam, Omaramba offers an excellent infrastructure and facilities providing for a wide variety of needs. It’s a perfect setting for a relaxing break, and for time spent with family or friends whilst enjoying the bushveld atmosphere.
*Accommodation & Costs:-* Due to previous years success, we will again host a two-night weekend away. Below are the in-season rates, subject to change without notice and for this reason, we recommend that members book and pay their deposits as soon as possible.
